报告摘要:
  目前,全球变暖被认为是引起多种威胁人类生存问题的气候背景,人们把在此背景下出现的很多具体问题都归因与这个大的环境背景,而理所当然的无所作为。每年有数十亿美元的费用花在所谓的全球变暖问题上,由于没有准确认识和理解相关的问题,社会管理者虽然投入大量的社会资源却没能很好的解决问题。工业界也在利用情感因素为股东谋利,而科学家们正在进行的大型的数值模拟也还存在着很大的不确定性。
现在是时候评估和关注我们面临的真正威胁了。报告将从解释间冰期为什么是10万年开始说起,告诉大家一个从没引起注意的新结果。这种理解为简单量化温室气体的影响和综合解决所谓的全球变暖威胁打开了思路。报告将以西澳大利亚为例,说明世界如何在几乎一夜之间实现碳中和,实现经济繁荣并保护其生物多样性。
  在报告人看来,唯一的问题是,我们是否有勇气改弦更张,寻找科学合理的途径真正的解决问题,而不是盲目地跟从。
报告人简介:
 
  Professor Imberger is an Adjunct Professor at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, University of Miami, Florida and visiting Professor at the Venice University, Italy. His research foci are the motion and mixing in lakes, estuaries and coastal seas in response to both natural and anthropogenic forcing and understanding the consequences when human tribal behavior is connected to the internet.
  Professor Imberger has received many awards including Onassis International Prize: Athens, Greece in 1995, the The Stockholm Water Prize. Sweden in 1996 and Redfield Life Time Achievement Award, ASLO in 2007. In 1992 he was made a Member of the Order of Australia and in 2008 he was named Scientist of the Year of Western Australia.
He is a Fellow of 10 international learned Academies including the US National Academy of Engineering, the UK Royal Academy of Engineering, the Australian Academy of Science and the Academy of Technological Science and Engineering and was recently elected in 2016 to the Academy of Distinguished Alumni, UCB, DCE.
  He has directed and participated in field research projects in Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Laos, Korea, Japan, China, Israel, Jordan, Italy, Germany, Netherlands, Greece, Macedonia, Canada, US, Mexico, Columbia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Kenya and South Africa. He was a Sackler Professorship, Israel, in 2002, was the Walter Bean Scholar, University of Waterloo, Canada in 2001, the Shimizu Visiting Professorship, Stanford University, USA in 1992, a Senior Visiting Fellow of Japan Society for the Promotion of Science in 1987 and the 1986 a Fairchild Distinguished Fellow, Caltech, Pasadena, USA in 1986. In 1999 he received an Hon Doctorate from the Democritus University of Thrace, Greece.
Professor Imberger has published 5 books, with two in preparation, contributed to 19 books and has published 261 Journals papers and numerous reports. SCOPUS lists his citations at 7,827 with an h-Index of 45 and Google Scholar credits him with 17,653 citations and an h-Index of 61.
